Applecross and The Pass of the Cattle

We left Poolewe and headed to Applecross for the night before heading over the mountain pass (Pass of the Cattle) the next day.

Walk from Beinn Eighe Visitor Centre

Lovely pic of Purdy

Applecross Campsite

There were Red Deer everywhere!

After a cold night we drove over the pass in sleet with temperatures just above zero. Luckily though, there was not much traffic (it is very narrow) so we had a lovely drive!

Coming back down the other side

We are now heading south to the Kintyre Peninsular but not sure where to go next - Islay or Gigha.

Stop over at beautiful Glencoe

The Northern Lights at Poolewe

We stayed at Poolewe, a very nice village where the river Ewe flows out into Loch Ewe and near to Inverewe Gardens. We were on a site right in front of the Loch and were still hoping to see the Northern Lights.

Phil has an app on his phone that alerts him to high geometric activity and this started to show - all we needed was a clear sky and some luck!

At about 2200 Dee was watching from through the skylight and we started to see white lights in the sky with green and magenta tints. Photos are a bit misleading as they are not what you see - pretty cool though! Here are some pics that have not been enhanced.

There were also some good walks from the site, which we did, as well as visiting the Gardens.

Looks like Ebb!

Mr Newt I presume!
