The Kinema in the Woods - a very quirky cinema. Built in 1922 - the K is not a typo and is pronounced as a hard K |
Tattershall Castle, is unique because it was built entirely of brick back in the 1400's over an existing smaller stone castle. Built by Lord Ralph Cromwell, Treasurer of England, it was designed to show off his wealth, position and power rather than defence. You can climb to the top where we had views for miles, but as it is next door to RAF Coningsby, we were treated to some Typhoon fly pasts!
RAF Coningsby a few miles away from the castle, is currently the home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and offer tours of their hanger. We decided to book on. The tour was about an hour and a half and we learnt about the resident Spitfires, Hurricane, Dakota (on loan over winter), Chipmunk and the massive Lancaster - one of only two in flying condition, the other is in Canada.
